Hi! My name is Ione. Though my first love will always be math, I love being outdoors, going hiking, running, walking, swimming, and exploring. I also love spending time with my family- I am a big people person. I am happiest when I am being active, which is why sacramento">tutoring and helping others is perfect for me.

About Me

This year, I will be a sophomore at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. I am a Psychology major and am also concentrating in Women's and Gender Studies. I have a 3.83 GPA, and was on the Merit List both semesters. After completing my undergraduate education, I hope to pursue a Masters in Public Health. I am very interested in studying maternal/child healthcare, and ensuring more women are covered.

For a period of nine months, I tutored 13 year old twin girls. They were in the 8th grade, and needed help on algebra, geometry, life science, and English. I also coached them in essay writing skills so that they would be prepared to take the essay test to get into the Humanities and International Studies Program at C. K. McClatchy High School. Both girls were admitted. When I came home from college this summer, I began sacramento">tutoring them again in biology and algebra II to ensure they would be ready for finals. Last year, I also tutored a 12 year old girl for 30 hours over three weeks in pre-algebra and essay writing skills. During my freshman year of college, my professor hired me to sacramento">tutor her high school aged daughter in algebra II using an online program, which I did for several weeks.

Unlike most sacramento">tutors I know, I benefited from sacramento">tutoring in high school. I understand what it feels like to struggle and become frustrated in a certain subject. However, I also understand how helpful individual attention can be, even more so, sometimes, than attention from the teacher. Because of this experience, I am very understanding of the students I sacramento">tutor. I believe anyone is capable of mastering a subject or class if they put their mind to it, and I see my role as a guide and motivator. I believe in translating my student's material into something more manageable (perhaps using real life examples) so that my students feel not that I am teaching them, but helping them teach themselves.
