Fun Facts
I was born in Puerto Rico where I lived for 14 years, therefore, I am fluent in Spanish. I love to run; when I was younger I was the Champion National of Puerto Rico in Track and Field. I am now, however, not nearly as fast as I used to be since I do not practice as much as I used to because I am very busy with college. I enjoy of many activities, but what I like the most is meeting people.
About Me
I am a Biology major and Chemistry minor at maryland/towson">towson-university">maryland/towson">Towson University from which I expect to graduate May 2015. This is a very exciting year for me, because I will be completing my pre-medicine prerequisites, taking my Medical College Admission Test and applying to medical schools.
My academic performance has always been my priority. I am currently a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and tri-Beta Biology Honor Society. Also, I have been given the opportunity to participate in Genetics research.
In Elementary and Middle school in Puerto Rico, having a 4.0 GPA, I was chosen by teachers to assist them in their classrooms with children having difficulties in Math, Science and Spanish.
When I moved to Maryland in my freshman year of High School I was placed in an ESOL classroom, because I did not speak English. In four months I was able to communicate with others and write English, thus I was removed from the classroom. However, I encountered many Spanish speakers who were in ESOL and had difficulties understanding math because they could not understand the teacher. Therefore, the ESOL teacher allowed me to teach the students these math concepts in Spanish. Now at maryland/towson">towson-university">maryland/towson">Towson University, I have volunteered to maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutor Chemisty, Organic Chemistry and Biology classes through study sections.
When I was in Puerto Rico, English was my worst subject; I truly hated it. Then, my parents decided to move to Maryland, where everyone speaks English! I was afraid that I would fail all of my classes. That year I met my English as a second language teacher. She encouraged me to talk regardless of how many words I mispronounced, she made me write numerous essays to practice; she was a great motivator.
Being able to be a part of others' learning process is a privilege. Some students feel discouraged, and lost when they are not able to understand a certain concept in a classroom. I believe that it is a matter of practice and patience. I am here not only to teach, but to be a mot
