Fun Facts
I am an NBA and NFL fanatic (Niners and Bulls!), and I have played basketball and football my entire life. I was born in Peshawar, Pakistan but my family is originally from Logar, Afghanistan. I love film, literature, dance, and art in general. I, myself, am a creative writer, and I've published a few short stories and poems in literary magazines. I am the eldest brother out of five.
About Me
I am a recent graduate of CSU Sacramento, having earned my B.A. in English in the May of 2014 with a cumulative GPA of 3.94. I have been on the Dean's list every year of my collegiate career, and I was recently awarded the Dean's Award for the College of Arts and Letters and the Outstanding Senior Award for the Department of English. I plan to pursue my Masters Degree in English either at UC Davis, UC Irvine, or St. Johns University, and eventually I hope to attain my Phd in Literary Theory.
I have served as a classroom assistant, and a one on one conversation partner, with the English as Second Language Program at the World Relief Organization. I mostly worked with elderly refugees. I have also worked as a graduate student assistant at the collegiate level in a Masterpieces of Cinema class with Professor Doug Rice at CSU Sacramento. I organized study groups, led discussions, graded papers, and gave feedback to students. Most recently, I have begun volunteering with the Sacramento Food Bank as a GED sacramento">tutor.
My approach to sacramento">tutoring is rooted in a combination patience, persistence, and gradual (step by step) understanding. I have found that, oftentimes, the process of learning a new concept can be incredibly frustrating and difficult, and it is important to try to target a few of the most serious issues the student is having with the subject matter at hand, and then to break down these issues one step at a time. If I'm going over grammar, for example, I target the three most significant grammatical issues the student is having (sentence fragments are often the number one issue) and then I patiently, and persistently, go over these issues with the student until he/she begins to understand.
