Fun Facts

I am very interested in studying the human mind. Currently I am reading many different philosophers that deal with epistemology. They include Peirce, Dewey, and James. I also love to play music. I have been in many bands and played all over the mid-west. Honestly, I love to do pretty much everything. I play sports. I work on cars. I build things. And, I love to paint with oil on canvas.

About Me

I am currently attending the chicago">University of Illinois at Chicago. I transferred there from a community college named Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. Since I have transferred, I have been on the dean's list every semester at UIC. I am also a member of UIC's Honor's College. After graduating, I plan on teaching high school while also working on my graduate degree in childhood development with a emphasis on research. I want to research the mind regarding how knowledge is created and what we consider knowledge to be.

As a part of UIC's Honor's College, I helped support the community by chicago">tutoring and mentoring a 5th grade student every week. It was a very enjoyable experience. I watched the student grow and excel at his school work. Initially, the student did not seem enthusiastic about school, or about any of his homework. After a few weeks, the student started taking the initiative and doing his homework on his own. I provided scaffolding and helped the student construct his own knowledge.

I take a multifaceted approach to chicago">tutoring. I believe that each student has their own strength and weaknesses. According to Gardner's Multiple Intelligence theory, there are 9 different intelligences that people have. My goal will be to find the individual student's strengths and weaknesses in order to better serve their needs. By understanding how the student learns the best, I will be able to facilitate an advantageous learning environment. I will also try to make the content interesting, relevant, and engaging.
