About Me
Hello, my name is Keanon and I am a college freshman at Southern University. Throughout my school career, I have always exceled in my studies, earning A's or B's for most of my education. I unofficially started tutoring when I was 12 years old, teaching my older brothers and sisters algebra. That then expanded in high-school, as I started tutoring peers and local elementary/middle school students through the National Honors Society, to which I maintain membership. My favorite subject is Math, although I am quite adept at English, Biology, US History, African Studies and many more subjects which I have listed above. I also play the flute and piccolo. However, I feel my greatest skill is patience. My life has been defined by struggle. Being raised by a single mother with 9 other siblings was already an extremely difficult task, but it was amplified the homelessness and lack of money that accompanied it. Spending years lacking proper clothing and rationing food, I became lost in my studies. While others brushed off school, I saw education as the key to attaining a better life for my family. I could not quantify the number of books I read when I was younger, nor the amount of time I spent studying. Learning became my passion, and eventually, my joy. This fascination led me to where I am today, and the joining of this company. Congruently, it led you to my profile. Ideologically, my tutoring approach has always been the same: Everyone is teachable. I am a proponent of tailoring my tutoring towards the student, as every person learns differently, as well as at varying paces. Ultimately, learning should be a fun process and my patient, passionate, encouraging, adaptable methods will work for anyone.
Experience
My tutoring journey started off with my older brother and sisters. When I went into high-school, I joined the National Honors Society and National Society for High School Scholars, to which I was granted the opportunity to tutor elementary, middle school, as well as fellow high-school students. I mainly tutored in math varying from Algebra to AP calculus, but also taught Writing, and rudimentary science and English. Once I got into college, I continued tutoring my younger sister and classmates.
Approach
I believe that everyone can learn with the right attitude and right teacher. My approach is more of a personal one, rather than lesson-based. Of course, studying is necessary to fully grasp any subject, but understanding the style to which each person learns best, guarantees success, fun, and total awareness of the material. This approach works with anyone, and any subject. My goal is for you to no longer need a tutor, increasing your confidence with every session.
