Fun Facts

I love learning new things, and getting to share them with other people. In addition to a degree in Economics I have trained as a chef, speak reasonably fluent Spanish, as well as some Latin, French, and American Sign Language. I know how to sail and windsurf, have done competitive ballroom dance, and love debate, which I did for all of high school and college.

About Me

I am an energetic, outgoing person. I like playing with kids because they usually have a better sense of adventure and wonder. I see no reason why they can't learn while playing, or why school and homework should be a chore. As they get older most students lose this mentality, but with the material getting more complex I think it can be much more exciting, reading interesting things and solving complex puzzles, than just learning the fundamentals of reading and counting that are necessary per-requisites.

I have worked as a babysitter, camp counselor, and tutored pre-K through college students. I did very well in school, and even graduated college early, but was not perpetually a straight A student. I think the best washington-dc">tutors are the ones who have struggled with a subject or two, that makes it much easier to empathize with a confused student, and understand that if one concept is unclear it does not mean anything about the student as a whole.

Learning should be fun and exciting. Most of what is taught can have some practical application, and knowing about the end result of education can make the process a lot less tiresome and more of a quest for something genuinely worth learning. Once subjects start to make sense it becomes more of a game and less of a chore to learn them, and I like to use analogies, stories, and hands one examples to help make foreign subjects more accessible.
