Fun Facts
One fun fact about me is that I love dance. While the only official dance lessons that I've taken were ballet (I was little and terrible at it), I have grown up contra dancing (which is similar to square dancing), and have done many other dance workshops throughout my life. Before the pandemic started, I had begun going to swing dance workshops regularly. I hope to continue swing dancing when I get the chance to again!
About Me
I currently have one semester as a Linguistics graduate student in New York under my belt, but am planning to transfer to a school in Iowa where I can focus exclusively on Spanish and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Once I have my Master's, I plan to teach English in South and Central America.
Experience
As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to tutor Writing and Research, as well elementary-advanced Spanish. While working on my Bachelor's Degree, I also earned my College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Certification. Upon graduating, I worked as a Temporary professional ESOL tutor, as well as volunteered to teach English in an Elementary school in Spain for three months. As a graduate student, I also taught Spanish 102 as a Teaching Assistant.
Approach
I am passionate about helping students learn how to learn. A good tutor helps students discover their personal learning style and develop study strategies that complement it. I also help students become independent learners by analyzing their study materials in a way that allows them uncover answers to their own questions. From gaining my Tutor Certification, I have developed questioning strategies that help me guide students to the solutions that they are looking for in a patient manner.
