Fun Facts
I once visited 48 of the 50 U.S. states in a 26-day road trip! I have a long history of trying to learn instruments: piano, trumpet, euphonium, and now bass guitar. As you can probably tell, I don't think I was born to be a musician! My dog, Brandy, is a Siberian Husky with heterochromia (her eyes are different colors -- one blue, one brown!).
About Me
I am a doctoral student at maryland">University of Maryland, College Park studying Mathematics Education. As a former math and science/maryland/baltimore">computer science high school teacher, I'm interested in how student's mathematical learning develops in conjunction with coding skills. I earned my Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution, and continued on to earn my Master's in Teaching (Secondary Mathematics) from maryland">Loyola University Maryland.
Experience
I have a number of past experiences teaching math and science, including tutoring positions at Mathnasium of Roland Park and Harvard University, TA positions at the Hotchkiss School's Summer Portals program and Penn's Psychology department, and teaching positions at Archbishop Curley High School and (currently) as an instructor at UMD. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than helping math and science ideas "click" and make sense for others -- Frog Tutoring gives me that opportunity!
Approach
I believe in carefully scaffolding learning experiences to the level of the learner. Students should start off in a place where they feel quite comfortable to develop their skills and confidence in those skills. As they grow, I encourage them to tackle more and more challenging problems with increasing autonomy -- so that, by the end, they can stand tall in the face of difficult problems and handle them with all the skills at their disposal.
