Fun Facts
In the summer of 2013, I had the opportunity to travel to Beijing, China, as part of the Beijing International Education Exchange (BIEE) Summer Camp. The Summer Camp unites students from around the world who share a sense of global curiosity. I engaged in cultural tours, visited key landmarks such as the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square, tried new cuisine, learned about the history and current-day life in Beijing, and tested my – sometimes tenuous – Mandarin abilities.
About Me
I am a civil engineer who attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. Although engineering is my primary occupation, my long-term goal is to become an educational consultant and create my own tutoring center or school to increase the educational equity among under-resourced and vulnerable populations. I believe that race, income, social status, or immigration status should not be a hindrance to obtaining a high-quality education, and I want to do my part to close the gap.
Experience
Since middle school, I have participated in various math, science, and engineering competitions and programs. I have experience with Advanced Placement (AP) courses from high school and earned an AP Scholar Distinction Award (May 2015). I have taken 4 years of advanced math, science, and engineering courses at the university level and have been on the dean's list for 5 out of 8 semesters. I have done freelance tutoring for 5 years (100+ clients, 250+ hours.)
Approach
My education in engineering, 4 years of calculus, physics, and engineering coursework, 5 years of subject-based tutoring, and my effective communication skills, patience, resourcefulness, and my simple, no-fluff approach to teaching will let me get right to work preparing students for standardized tests required by the state; planning lessons in the subjects students are learning; and assessing students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
