About Me
I am currently a freelance writer with more than 12 years of writing and communications experience in Arkansas and Michigan. I have a B.A. in journalism from the University of Arkansas and a M.A. in journalism and strategic media from the memphis">University of Memphis, where I was an Olin F. Morris Fellowship recipient in 2018 and 2019, and a CCFA Morton Thesis/Dissertation Award recipient in 2020-- awarded to best thesis in the U-M College of Communications and Fine Arts.
Experience
In my storied career, I have mentored many interested in the field of social media marketing and writing. This includes proofreading articles and papers before publication, as well as helping teammates create social media plans and content for their brands. I would like to continue helping students with their writing and social media marketing, as well reading comprehension and study skills to help them succeed in school.
Approach
As a child, I initially struggled in school, not realizing my full potential. Throughout elementary, middle school, junior high school and high school, I became an honor roll student, earning top honors from 10th - 12th grades and in college. I was lucky enough to have several teachers and professors who helped me realize that I was smart and had a bright future. As a tutor, I bring this positive encouragement and helpfulness to all my sessions.

In undergraduate and graduate school, I took several classes in the arts and covered the arts in much of my writing. My career spans more than 12 years in a variety of sectors, most importantly in the arts. At one point, I was an online editor covering arts in the area and the communications manager of a professional repertory theatre. I have a deep understanding of the arts and would like to share that with students.
Communication Tutoring
My undergraduate and graduate degrees are arts degrees in journalism, which is mainly centered around communications. I have more than 12 years of experience in the field of communications spanning writing, marketing, social media and PR.
Graduate Level Writing Tutoring
As a graduate student, I wrote extensively in a variety of topics. To complete my master's degree, I had to write and defend a thesis paper based on my own research. After spending 8+ months proposing, outlining, doing the research and writing the paper, I defended my paper successfully. I was awarded the CCFA Morton Thesis/Dissertation Award, given to the best thesis at the University of Memphis College of Communications and Fine Arts that year.
Study Skills Tutoring
In my educational career, I was on the honor roll every year and won many scholarships and awards. This is because I developed strong study skills that helped me excel in all of my subjects-- not just my major. I think I could really help students develop tactics to succeed in any subject.
