Fun Facts
Outside of my academics, I am immensely interested in music. I am a percussionist myself, as well as an avid lover of the recording/live sound arts. I am looking to start DJing in Manhattan this year as a part time job on the weekends. Growing up in the country, I have a great interest in being outside as much as I can and being physically active.
About Me
College: Fordham University, Major: Biology, Graduated in 2014. I am currently taking a gap year before applying to medical school. I am working full time as a medical assistant at NY Spine Medicine (a private neurology and pain management practice) in midtown Manhattan to gain more insight into the medical field. As of right now, my career goal is to work in the medical field as a doctor. Awards: student leadership and service awards, Dean's List 2013-2014, Co-President/Co-Founder of Autism Speaks U - Fordham University.
My senior year at Fordham, I worked as a tutor for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). Here, I worked to inspire my students to realize their own potential by not just being a tutor, but a mentor. I assisted them with study skills and organizing their schedules so that they could more effectively study and prepare for exams. I tutored biology, philosophy, calculus, and English/composition. This experience taught me a lot about myself, such as the fact that I could be an effective tutor and truly work to help others apply themselves and reap the benefits of their own hard work.
My tutoring approach starts with getting down to the "same level" as the students I tutor. By this, I mean to truly get to know these students as people and be seen by them as a friend, yet still an authoritative, but persuasive and friendly figure. Once I get to know the students, I figure out quickly how they currently study and learn, and then what tutoring approach might be best for them individually. Not every student is the same and/or learns in the same manner, which is why I find it important to get to know the students at a personal level before proceeding to tutor them. I have found this to be a very effective method in the past.
