Fun Facts
Senior at ASU, planning on becoming a physician assistant, love to encourage young people to get involved with science and STEM!! Science was easily never a subject I was good at until I got to college, ironically. The difference wasn't smartness, it was experiencing the passion and enthusiasm from my professors, and other professionals in my current field. I honestly believe that if you have the drive and the passion for something, you can make it happen, and you can be great at it. It's not ab
About Me
Honors student, graduating in spring '22. Moved to Tempe two years ago to continue my college education. I transferred from Marquette University in Milwaukee. It wasn't a bad school--just too cold and gloomy! I've always had a passion for helping others, and I think it started with my passion for animals and wanting to be a veterinarian. I later found out that working with people is more for me, but I still love animals. I've owned several dogs and cats including a pit bull named Tommy, and currently our beloved bulldog, Hawker. Back in high school, I tutored kids in Spanish and Algebra, and then at my old school I tutored one-on-one with a primarily Spanish-speaking girl in subjects like reading and math. I have experience working with people from virtually all age groups--I was a summer camp counselor back in 2018 and had a blast getting paid to play with kids all day! I also was a CNA for six months at a nursing home which was also a very rewarding experience and one of my former resident still connects with me on Facebook. I think the people and events that shaped me as a kid were so foundational to the person I am today, which is why I am excited to be apart of the shaping and future of other young boys and girls.
Experience
I was a part of National Honors Society in high school which got me involved in a whole bunch of volunteering and fundraising activities. I tutored students a few years behind me in Algebra and Spanish. In college, I also tutored for one semester as a part of my Spanish class, as well as volunteered in various science-related fundraisers and human welfare activities. One of my most memorable trips was to St. Luke's hospital in Milwaukee to experience their robotic neuroscience laboratory. As for
Approach
It really depends on the person what approach I would take with helping them learn. In my experience, teachers who are patient and involve the student in the process of learning, while not playing unnecessarily long guessing games (that gets old) were the most successful in my learning. I've also been big on the "why" part of learning, that lets people do their own critical thinking by knowing the purpose behind every step of the process. Finally, learning is always easier when you can at least
