Fun Facts

I grew up in a multicultural household (Turkish and Mexican) surrounded by a loud and outgoing family who had a passion for food and travel. I love to cook both Turkish and Mexican food (although I prefer the former) and I'm open to trying new and crazy foods.

About Me

I graduated cum laude (3.82 GPA) from Yale College in May 2014, with a B.A. in Religious Studies and distinction in my major. I currently work at the Inter-American Dialogue, a think-tank in D.C., and I do research related to democratic governance and security in Latin America. I want to eventually pursue a Masters Degree in an area related to security and crime prevention.

I have extensive experience washington-dc">tutoring different subjects. At Yale, I participated in a volunteer program that tutored young adults in order to prepare them for their GED exam. I mostly tutored Math and Science, which were the areas that my students struggled with the most. I also served as Spanish washington-dc">Tutor for a year, prior to which I assisted professors in grading Spanish homeworks.

;Practice makes perfect. The best way to learn is by making mistakes and acknowledging them. After teaching and reviewing the material with my students, I invite them to apply it by solving a practical problem, even if they don't feel comfortable doing so yet. I continuously encourage my students to take risks, so that I can see what areas they are struggling with. Every learner is different, and knowing exactly where each one of my students struggles is the best way to target the washington-dc">tutoring lesson to their own needs.
