About Me

I am a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania. I am pursuing a major in Criminology and a minor in Law & Society. I plan on attending law school upon graduation from the University of Pennsylvania. I hope to become a human rights lawyer.

Experience

Since my sophomore year of high school, I have been tutoring students for the NYC Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT). I have also tutored at Kairos Learning Community and I am a current classroom assistant at Math Plus Academy. I am also the Vice President of Gateway Scholars of Southeastern Queens, an organization committed to the education and mentorship of NYC students who attend school in Southeastern Queens.

Approach

When teaching students math, I understand that assessment to measure understanding of concepts that are learned is important, but this should not make up the entirety of teaching sessions. As a current student, I am well aware of what engages and disengages students, especially when they are learning topics that are new and difficult. When I tutored my former students, I always made sure to incorporate online or physical math games into my lesson plan. I also use interactive videos to help increase engagement.
