About Me

Ever since I began learning Spanish 12 years ago, I knew that I would continue working with the language. I earned a Bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College of Maryland in Foreign Languages and Cultures, with a specialization in Spanish. To enhance my cultural awareness of different Spanish dialects, I studied abroad in Salamanca and Alicante, Spain during my 2008 Summer Semester at Lycoming College as well as in Buenos Aires, Argentina during my 2010 Fall Semester at St. Mary's College of Maryland. I am currently pursuing a career in translation for the government, so I maintain a high proficiency of the Spanish language and culture.

Throughout my college career, I have tutored numerous students in Spanish grammar, using both visuals and audio to better enhance their grasp on the language. I have also informally tutored my younger sister, who has auditory deficit making it hard for her to aurally understand language. I enjoy maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutoring because it not only allows me to practice Spanish, but I love knowing that I am fostering the student's enthusiasm and desire on the subject. Seeing the student improve over time makes the experience all worth while for me.

For my maryland/maryland/baltimore">baltimore">tutoring approach, I incorporate flash cards with visual cues to better help the student to remember the vocabulary. I also use interactive games that focus on different grammar aspects to keep learning fun and exciting. Based on what music genre the student listens to, I like to teach the student a few songs in Spanish as singing enhances aural and verbal skills. I use my own grammar books, both from my personal and scholarly repertoire. To help organize the material, I provide the students with charts that facilitate learning. When possible, I provide the students with mnemonics for better memorization.
