Fun Facts
I love to dance TANGO. I have been dancing TANGO for many years, and even travelled to Argentina. While I was there, I found out that I have a twin who has the same name and interests!
I am teaching myself how to garden. I love cooking and make abstract expressionist art in my free time.
About Me
I have been teaching English for 17 years; I have taught high school, middle school, and ESL learners. My favorite part of teaching/tutoring is finding a new or different way of presenting the material.
Mistakes are great! Learners fail forward. If we are not making mistakes, we are not advancing. I also count my self as a learner because I am constantly trying new things, hitting road blocks, and starting again.
Experience
I work with my students one to one most days in my classroom, especially when it comes to writing. Each student has her own voice and perspective. I encourage that voice. I have also tutored an adult preparing for college entrance exams--particularly in how to tackle reading passages since he was a struggling reader. I love teaching students how tests are made and how to work with greater ease.
Approach
As an elementary student, I underperformed until my dad caught on. I once told him that a C was a great grade because it meant I understood the material. He wasn't thrilled--everything changed after that moment. I learned from high performing friends how to study and also realized that what worked for them might not work for me, so I created my own style of studying. Each learner has a "sweet" spot for learning new material. I like to help students find it and utilize it.
