Fun Facts
I am currently studying Hindi at Northwestern and how to cook Indian food, mostly because half of my family is of Indian descent. Outside of school, I love to read the works of Kurt Vonnegut and Christopher Isherwood, as well as books and documents on American legal history and the history of primary and secondary education. I stole all of my good jokes from 30 Rock and Arrested Development.

My freshman year, I volunteered with other Northwestern undergraduates helping elementary school students with their homework in an after-school program at a local community center. Prior to college, I worked at an observatory in my hometown. There, I assisted elementary and middle school with classroom activities, which included physical experiments, written responses, computer activities, and telescope observations.
I always have to be careful when guiding a student through a specific question or problem. I must explain the process without answering the question for the student, especially if I am helping a student with questions assigned by someone else. I create a different but similar problem and guide the student through it. An easy and obvious solution, say, for a math problem, but equally important to do when helping a student reason through a historical concept or topic. Understanding history requires analysis, organization, and critical thinking, things that can be taught through practice and observation. You cannot merely recite facts, dates, and formulas (many math exams provide the formulas necessary). You must know how to organize and analyze.
