Fun Facts
I am a scuba diver and I have actually swam with sharks! I have also explored boat and plane wrecks at the bottom of the ocean. I love the big island of Hawaii because of the volcanoes. I have been a few hot feet away from flowing lava! I enjoy riding motorcycles and water skis, and alpine skiing. Now that I'm retired, I especially love being able to drop everything and go on a trip to anywhere but where I currently am!
About Me
I am a native Phoenician. I now split my time between northern Arizona, Phoenix, and Puerto Penasco, Mexico. I have been a teacher for 30 years, and I am recently retired. Besides teaching, I worked for the City of Phoenix running softball fields, leagues, and tournaments. I am an avid athlete and I have coached softball and volleyball. I am also a certified softball umpire for adult slow pitch softball.
Experience
I am a retired teacher of 30 years. I started out teaching computers in middle school--computer applications, desktop publishing, basic programming, and typing for 15 years. Next, I rotated back into academics and started teaching 7th and 8th grade math and writing. Recently, I have added to my repertoire tutoring students in Algebra 1 and Geometry. I retired from full-time teaching in 2021 and just tutor now.
Approach
When I tutor, I let the student tell me what they need assistance with--the student is in charge. The student drives the session--whether it be checking homework answers, wanting further explanation or examples for math concepts, working through study guide problems, or reteaching a concept. When appropriate, I will provide background or reason as to why things work in math the way they do. I am here to support the student's understanding and fill in the gaps when needed.

MEdAlgebra Tutoring
I have been tutoring 8th-9th-10th grade students for the past 3 years in Algebra 1. Much of what I taught full time in 7th and 8th grade math is the foundation for Algebra 1 so I can bring a lot of background information to help students understand the concepts in Algebra 1.
Geometry Tutoring
I have been tutoring 8th-9th-10th grade students in Geometry for the past 3 years. Much of what I taught in 7th and 8th grade math is the background for what is learned in Geometry. By bringing in concepts from earlier grades helps students understand the current math concepts better.
English Tutoring
I have taught 7th grade English for five years. I am a proficient writer myself and can lend my experience and understanding to helping students write and refine their writing.
Math Tutoring
I have taught 7th and 8th grade math for 20 years. I have helped write curriculum and I have created my own materials, examples, and labs to help teach junior high math. I have also worked on the current national assessments so I know what topics are tested more heavily. I also can use concepts from previous grades to help students understand current topics being taught.
