Fun Facts

I’m originally from Michigan and growing up I spent my summers on the beach windsurfing, waterskiing, and jet-skiing. I’m a Michigan State University alumnus and I’ve been following Spartan basketball and football as long as I can remember. In high school and college I ran on the track and cross country teams but in more recent years I have become involved in the martial arts. In fact, I just recently received my green belt in Taekwondo. In my spare time I also enjoy reading, cooking, and triv

About Me

Ever since I can remember I’ve wanted to be a scientist and have always loved learning about the physical world. I got a Ph.D. in physics in 2009 and have worked as research scientist at two national laboratories. Through these experiences I realized that what I enjoy most is connecting basic scientific theory to broader concepts and sharing these ideas with others. With more than seven years of experience in the sciences as a researcher, student mentor and atlanta">tutor, I have established a strong skill set that enables me to engage and educate students of all backgrounds.

I’ve experience atlanta">tutoring students with a variety of educational backgrounds and in numerous different environments. During my senior year as an undergraduate student, I worked as a teaching assistant where I helped underclassman perform the laboratory portion of introductory physics classes and led a study hall to help students grasp complex concept and assignments from their math and physics course. As a graduate student I worked as physics atlanta">tutor where I provided academic support to high school and undergraduate students to enhance their understanding of material presented in their physics classes. Even as a postdoctoral research assistant a large part of my responsibilities was mentoring graduate students during their thesis work and advising them on how best to setup experiments in the laboratory.

Two characteristics of my atlanta">tutoring style which are fundamental to achieving my goals as an educator are connecting the subject material to the students’ life experiences and presenting material in a way that is tailored to the students' education, ability, and personality. To best suit the needs of the student, I adjust my atlanta">tutoring style based on an evaluation of the student’s comprehension and performance. Additionally, I believe that learning is a dynamic process that is greatly enhanced when new information is presented in a manner that is both informative and interesting. By relating abstract idea
