Fun Facts

I majored in theater, so I love reading plays! I'm also a big fan of reading biographies and remembering the useless facts.

About Me

I am a graduate of Drew University with a 3.97 GPA and 8 semesters on the Dean's List. I majored in Theater (with concentrations in Playwriting and Dramaturgy), with a minor in Dance.

Experience

I've taught at the college level as a Teaching Assistant for three years, in writing-focused and skill-focused classrooms. I've tutored individually at the Center for Academic Excellence for three years, specializing in writing throughout all disciplines, as well as Academic Coaching. I've worked with students ranging from elementary schoolers to graduate students on a variety of topics, always working to keep things as clear and straightforward as possible.

Approach

Many things in school took a while to click for me, but once they were explained in a way I understood, I was able to exceed. As a tutor and teacher, I believe in taking multiple approaches to things, so that "I don't get it" turns into "I don't get it yet". For me, this means I have to understand things so fully in order to explain them in multiple ways, but this is inconsequential when it means that session frustration is lowered and self-esteem is raised in the student. Personally, I like to

Personally, I am an award-winning playwright, published fiction author, journalist, and certified writing specialist with the Center for Academic Excellence. As a writing fellow, a teacher within freshman writing seminars, I have taken English pedagogy classes which have helped me refine my skills as an English teacher. Throughout college and in my extracurricular life, I have taken and excelled in many writing workshops, which have taught me how to thoughtfully assess writing, creative and academic, and work with students on revision and reshaping. These experiences, taught by leaders in their fields like Emily Nemens, the former editor of the Paris Review, and Courtney Zoffness, an award-winning writer, have also taught me the ins and outs of literary analysis in an approachable and accessible way.

History Tutoring

As a professional theatrical dramaturg, it is my job to do intense historical research and figure out everything there is to know about a historical period. By taking a pointed approach to learning about history, I am able to help students in fleshing out their understanding of a time period, not just a list of dates and battles. With dramaturgical research comes the skill to understand society from a historical view, and I look forward to helping students gain that same perspective. I am a registered tutor and have helped many students with history papers, giving me a solid sense of the style of writing and academic constraints.

Sociology Tutoring

Throughout college, I took a number of sociology courses ranging from the Sociology of Shopping to Group Behavior, which has given me a solid foundation in the discipline to aid students as they learn why we do what we do. Many aspects of my academic life have been shaped by my sociological studies, like including theories in English and History classes and using behavioral models to identify behavior within fictional settings. My award-winning dramaturgy work on "Spring Awakening" (2020) was based on a sociological perspective, something which aided actors and designers in their work.

Homework Coach Tutoring

In college, I earned my Peer Academic Tutor certification, enabling me to help my peers with homework skills, study skills, time management, and organizational tools. This has been an enriching experience for me, as I learn better ways to practice along with the students and give them practical tips and tricks I've learned throughout my time as a student. I have a history of working with neurodivergent students, and I have no issue adapting existing techniques to fit individual needs.

Writing Tutoring

Since my sophomore year in college, I have been a registered writing tutor with the Center for Academic Excellence, teaching and workshopping writing across all college disciplines. I have also spent three years as a Writing Fellow, an embedded student teacher in writing-focused freshman seminars, where I taught workshops, foundational English skills, and tutored students individually. I am an award-winning writer in multiple disciplines, having been published as a fiction writer, journalist, and nationally produced as a playwright. I've trained with several high-profile writers (Emily Nemens, former editor of the Paris Review, and Courtney Zoffness, an award-winning short story and non-fiction author). The training I've gained in those workshops has given me the skills to edit, revise, and assist students with their own writing.
