Fun Facts
Something about me is that I have three pets! One dog, one crested gecko, and one snake!! A lot of people are afraid of my snake at first, but I promise, she's the sweetest thing.
About Me
I have a degree in Experimental Psychology, and I'm currently working on my doctorate in Psychological and Brain Sciences. When I'm not in school, I work with people of all ages - from infants to older adults. When I graduate, my goal is to work as a data analyst.
Experience
I have been a tutor for elementary, middle, and high school students in math, science, history, reading, and computer skills. In addition, I planned daily crafts for my students to work on during breaks and down time. Then, I was volunteered as a psychology tutor and writing coach for college students. For my psychology students, we would meet weekly to discuss any concerns about the content. For my writing students, we would set writing goals and I would provide feedback on writing samples.
Approach
When I was younger, I had a hard time learning new concepts and needed to figure out how I best learned all by myself. I don't want others to have to struggle through this by themselves. As a tutor, I try to keep the environment positive and open, so everyone feels comfortable asking questions. I hope to help others identify their learning needs and learn that it's okay to speak up for themselves when they need help.

PhdCriminal Justice Tutoring
I have taken Criminal Justice Policy, Advanced Statistics in Criminal Justice, Applied research in Criminal Justice, Proseminar on Criminal Justice Theory, and Law and Social Control, where I earned all A's and one B+. In addition to classes, I also obtained a degree in forensic experimental psychology and worked with a correctional facility, so I have inside knowledge of the system.
Graduate Level Writing Tutoring
As an upper level college student, professors expect writing samples to be nearly perfect. I have spent countless hours working on papers in many subjects. When writing, I've found it mostly comes down to struggling to get our thoughts down on paper in a way that will make sense to the audience. This is something I am constantly working on, and I'm helping others learn as well.
Psychology Tutoring
I have taken almost every psychology class you could think of, and I have loved them all! This is why I'm working on my doctorate in psychology. Psychology is all about understanding the mind, which is a massively complex topic! But it can be broken down into manageable pieces of information that we can work on together.
Study Skills Tutoring
Ultimately, effective study skills are the most important tools for success in education. I approach studying at a person-level focus. Everyone has different abilities, so we need to identify what the best approach is for your success.
Writing Tutoring
My strength lies in research-oriented writing. I identify a problem or purpose for writing, how to address is, then focus on elaborating. But, whether we're writing for scientific research or a piece of literature, the most important aspect is that the paper flows well.
Homework Coach Tutoring
I worked with high schoolers as a homework coach for 3 years. We focused on a variety of topics, including history, chemistry, and foreign language. I focus on the individual student, and what they need to succeed in class.
Writing Advance Tutoring
I have taken a variety of writing classes, and in almost every other class, have had to write a paper that demonstrates my knowledge in that area. The most difficult thing about writing, for me, is getting my thoughts across in a way others will understand. This is why I believe it is vitally important that a paper is cohesive and coherent. I strive to help my students write the most compelling paper they can.
GRE Tutoring
I have taken the GRE once, and along with that, took GRE prep courses through Kaplan, ETS, and a private tutor. I have knowledge about the test and what they are specifically looking for. It's a time consuming test, and those who are well-prepared will do well.
Basic Computer Skills Tutoring
Computer skills are very important to have now that almost everything can be done online. I'm well versed in Mac, but I still do a lot of work with PC.
Macintosh Tutoring
Mac OS is very different from PC and can take a lot of time to learn the differences, but once you are familiar with the basics, you can usually figure everything else out. I aim to focus on the key differences and learning the basics, so everyone can use both systems.
Microsoft Excel Tutoring
Excel has a lot of features many are unfamiliar with. I do a lot of work with Excel in terms of formulas and conditional formatting. I aim to identify your needs with Excel and what we can both do to address those needs.
Microsoft PowerPoint Tutoring
Powerpoint is a vital tool for anyone who needs to make presentations. There are other programs out there, but powerpoint is the most widely used and accessible. I give many presentations each year and have learned tricks to creating an informative and pleasing presentation.
Microsoft Word Tutoring
Word is probably the most used software on my computer. I have written 1 page proposals and 100 page papers, including figures, tables, and pictures. It's a great program once you know how to successfully use it for your needs!
R Programming Tutoring
R is a program I have been using for years, but just recently realized how powerful it really is. I've used it for a variety of statistical analyses, including correlation and factor analysis. There are so many things you can do with R!
SPSS Tutoring
SPSS is my favorite statistical software. For my purposes, it is the most straightforward and simplest to use. It's a powerful program that I can help you learn the in's and out's of!
