Fun Facts
I have lived all up and down the Northeast! I grew up in New York, moved up to Massachusetts at 13, and then moved down to Philly for college. I lived in DC after college, then moved to Camden, NJ. I ended up back in Philly for grad school in 2008 and have lived in West Philly ever since. I like swimming, baseball, and camping, and I have worked as a counselor/staff member at a camp in the Adirondacks. I also volunteer as a mentor at Mighty Writers in Philly.
About Me
I have a BA in English (with a minor in European History) from Eastern University in Wayne, PA, and an MA in English from the University of Pennsylvania. For the past five years, I worked as the Writing Coordinator at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, directing the writing center and providing academic support and philadelphia">tutoring to all students.
As the Writing Coordinator at Moore, I provided philadelphia">tutoring in writing, time management, and study skills to all students. I also trained writing assistants to work in our writing center and managed the peer philadelphia">tutoring program. I started philadelphia">tutoring as an undergraduate at Eastern University, where I worked in the writing center. I also have worked with elementary schoolers and GED students.
My training in writing center theory, which encourages a non-directive practice, informs much of my philadelphia">tutoring philosophy and approach. I want to encourage creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in students in order to get them to the place at which they can work on their own. I also seek to meet all students where they are in their academic lives by listening to them and figuring out what they need.
