About Me
I am currently working on my master's in curriculum and instruction at National Louis University and am pursuing a career in education/illinois/chicago">Special Education. I have a background in history and like to use stories of people in the past who overcame significant obstacles to help inspire students. I have worked in a variety of roles in education from subbing, to assisting, to teaching, as well as tutoring.
Experience
I have worked or volunteered in educational settings for 10 years between tutoring students from elementary to college-age, teaching, working as a education/illinois/chicago">special education assistant, and substituting in various roles in suburban and urban settings. I spent the pandemic year as an in-home intervention teacher for reading, math, and social-emotional learning and I have also consulted with families on how to set up their students who are newly approved or in the approval process for getting an IEP to help
Approach
My teaching approach is to figure out the student's strengths and try to maximize them so they can complete the task. I have often found that there are many ways of doing things and more than one way to be successful. I often share stories of my own struggles in school and how I overcame them to help empathize with the students I work with. I like to incorporate the students' personal interests into any enrichment work or research I have them do so they are gaining valuable critical thinking ski
