Fun Facts
One day, while shopping, a young lady next to me says, "Don't tell me you don't know who I am!" As I blink at her, she says, " Mrs. Federico from pre-K, right?" I nod, yes. Then, as she's pointing at me, she proceeds to exclaim to everyone within earshot, "This is my Pre-K teacher, I love her!" We hugged, chatted and exchanged numbers. That weekend, I meet with her and her family for dinner and reminisced for hours, rekindling a relationship from decades ago. we still keep in touch!
About Me
I am a very active senior and have many activities which keep me on the go. I enjoy Zumba, Pilates and Body Sculpting classes as well as power walks and Karaoke. I also do volunteer work for the elderly, driving them to appointments, and just recently I volunteered to tutor children at risk of graduating, at my grandson's school. I enjoy time with friends and family. Prior to covid, I was doing some tutoring and substitute teaching, but the "bug" put an end to that, except for two students who I already had been working with. As the school year is winding down, I would like to help offer my services to other students in need of assistance. Covid has ravaged the educational system and the children are the ones who have been the most negatively impacted by the whole pandemic crisis. Their academic foundations have been decimated!! They need a lot of help!!!!
Experience
I have many years of practical hands-on experience. As the 2nd oldest of 5 children, I was in charge of helping my 3 younger siblings with their classwork and homework. As the mother of 3, once again, I was very involved with schoolwork, homework, etc. This help also extended to my nieces and nephews. In 1986, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences, Cum Laude, Dean's list and a gpa of 4.5. That same year I began my formal teaching/tutoring career and have not stopped since!
Approach
To me, when teaching, the most important things are building confidence, creating a comfortable learning experience and remembering that each and child has a unique interpretation/understanding of any given lesson in any given subject. I let my students know that it's impossible for everyone to understand everything in a lesson all at the same time, and it's my job to offer a different explanation to them. Lessons are individualized. I also keep an open mind to unusual answers to questions.
