Fun Facts
One of my passions is that I love speaking Spanish! I lived in Spain during college and became fluent in the language during my time in Madrid. I seek out more opportunities to speak Spanish and love to practice any chance I get!
About Me
I am currently in graduate school at the chicago">University of Chicago, studying to receive my Master's of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Urban Education in summer 2023. During my undergraduate studies, I studied psychology at Kalamazoo College, where I also was in charge of an after-school program at a local elementary school for three years. Since graduating in 2018, I have been a paraprofessional in both Detroit and Chicago Public Schools. Once I have my Master's and teaching certificate, I hope to cultivate a nurturing and enriching classroom environment that allows my students to flourish as their true selves, thus creating a more equitable world for us all.
Experience
As an after-school program coordinator in college for three years, I was responsible for tutoring students from grades K-5 in all subjects. My love of teaching and being in a school led me to working in elementary special ed in Detroit and Chicago. I would consider myself passionate and proficient in all core subjects, with a special love of literacy as I believe it is the backbone to everything we teach at school.
Approach
Equity is at the heart of my pedagogy. Each student enters a classroom with different needs and abilities and thus schools should focus on educating the whole child--making students into good learners and good people. I believe that if we approach teaching and education as a community of learners that are there to help each other succeed, we will cultivate each child's full potential and ensure that each child gets what they need from our community.
