Hello! My name is Ashley, but a lot of people call me by my nickname B. I love playing roller derby and Magic the Gathering in my spare time. I have a cat and a Dutch rabbit named Ruby Hops! I love nature and all things living and I have a collection of found items like bark, bones, snake skins and pinned insects that I love to share with my students!

About Me

I just finished my 8th year as a public school teacher and I really love my job! I taught high school science for 5 years in Jackson, Mississippi before moving back to Arizona where I grew up. I spent one year at a charter school as the sustainability teacher for grades K-12 as well as the 4th-6th grade interventionist before transitioning back to public school to teach middle school STEM and life science. I greatly enjoy making my own lessons and materials and would eventually like to transition to a role as a curriculum specialist.

Experience

I hold a current AZ teaching license for 6-12 science, as well as additional certifications in AP biology and STEM. I have teaching experience in Biology at all levels (Intro through AP) as well as physical science, STEM, anatomy and physiology, and 4th grade math. I spent one year as an interventionist and also tutored for Tougaloo College for several years specializing in ACT, SAT and LSAT test prep. My most recent LSAT score was a 161, placing me in the 82nd percentile.

Approach

After 8 years of teaching it is clear my passion as an educator lies in making learning accessible to everyone. I excel at making content fun, engaging, and manageable and changing student attitudes from “I hate this subject and I’m bad at this” to “I like this and I can do this”. To do this I present content in multiple ways, chunk information, provide clear ways of organizing and utilizing notes, and track progress via exit tickets. I then design targeted intervention or accelerated material.
