About Me
I am a graduate from Augustana College and I majored in Elementary Education (December 2020). I received my Reading Teacher Endorsement in the Spring of 2021.
Experience
I have experience being a student teacher (August 2020 -November 2020), being a fifth grade teacher (February 2021 - June 2021), being a first grade summer school teacher (June 2021 - July 2021) and being a second grade teacher (August 2021 - May 2022.)
Approach
Throughout my education experience I came across teachers that put everything they had to offer into their students. I had the same teacher for first and second grade. During the summer going into second grade, I wrote that teacher letters in the mail. We would exchange pictures of activities that we were doing with our families and we would check in with each other. The letters that she wrote me showed me she cared about me as a person and not just about my academic standing. I remember being a fifth grader and walking around with her son at a Christmas shop the school was hosting. At a young age, I noticed relationships between students and teachers are of primary importance. Those relationships are crucial for engaging children in the learning process. I learned the relationships that teachers make with students should go far beyond the year in which the student is part of the classroom. I still talk to my elementary school teachers. I will establish and replicate these positive relationships with my students by being an advocate for them and by showing them that I care.
I want to be the teacher my students remember when they think about who most helped them become creative and critical thinkers, who was kind when it wasn’t expected, and who took interest in them as a person for the first time.
