About Me

I graduated from Thomas Edison State University (TESU) with a degree in Liberal Studies. While I enjoyed the wide range of subjects included in my major, writing/English courses were a favorite of mine, featuring prominently in my degree. For example, I obtained ‘A’ grades in both English Composition and Information Literacy/Academic Writing, and also received an ‘A’ grade for my written capstone project on the effects of land concentration. I have completed TEFL/TESL level 4 certification, which has given me deeper professional insight and improved strategies for teaching English as a Second language (ESL). I have also earned a certificate in Family Engagement in Education from Harvard University. In addition, I completed several courses at TESU related to science/new-jersey/new-jersey">political science, including history, sociology, and government, while receiving high grades in all of them.

Experience

I tutored my fellow TESU students in academic writing, and found it gratifying when those whom I’d instructed greatly improved their grades. I also tutored ESL for TESU students who were non-native English speakers, which enhanced their comprehension of course materials. Moreover, during the 2020 COVID lockdown, I began tutoring friends and neighbors online in the subjects of elementary math, writing, ESL, and science/new-jersey/new-jersey">political science. I taught both kids and adults, in a 1-on-1 format.

Approach

Tutoring should be a collaboration between student & teacher, and rather than simply serving as their instructor, I persuade students to give their own answers, even when they're uncertain of the correct one. This causes a student to formulate their idea of the concept, and even if they respond incorrectly, it lets me explain the logic behind the correct answer. This also allows me to check for comprehension. I have an enthusiastic & engaging style of tutoring, and always make lessons enjoyable.
