I love the outdoors and really get a kick out of riding horses at my cousin's ranch in Washington. My husband doesn't care for being on a horse, so we hop in our Jeep Wrangler and go to some awesome places like Canyon de Chelly in Arizona. But when night falls, you might just find me looking for Venus in the western sky.

About Me

I worked as a system engineer for many years, focusing on communications security for military satellite communications systems. Teamwork was a very integral part of my professional environment, from co-workers in my area of expertise to government colleagues representing the requirements of the customers and users. I traveled extensively on the east coast to attend working group meetings, to present at design reviews, and to test and verify software functionality.

While I was teaching math, I made myself available during lunch and after school to tutor students on an individual or group basis. Along with teaching mathematical concepts, I addressed good study habits, requiring students to take daily notes in class, show all their work on homework papers, and keep a notebook containing all notes, homework and tests.

When I approach a student new to me, I typically take time to chat a bit about most favorite and least favorite subjects/activities at school. When I work one on one with a student, I like the student to take as much responsibility for learning as possible, so I like to put myself in a guidance role. If a student is very confused on a topic, then I take the reigns and explain the process including solving a problem, with the intention of having the student do the next problem with me back in the guidance role.
