Fun Facts
Since I was a little girl, I have wanted to be a writer. When I was six, I wrote (and illustrated) my first story. It was a picture book (and by that I mean a bunch of pieces of computer paper stapled together) called "Lizzy the Lizard." I have a great love of English literature, and I spent most of July studying both Feminist Literature and Theory and World Literature at the University of Oxford in England! Did I tear up my first time in the library? Yes. Am I ashamed of that? Absolutely not!
About Me
I am an Auburn University alumna currently in the process of preparing for and applying to graduate programs for areas of English Literature. In the meantime, I am looking for a temporary remote job that will allow me to utilize my skills as a graduate of English Literature.
Experience
When COVID first hit the United States and everything shut down, I took on a remote tutoring internship where I edited daily paragraphs for five 3rd – 7th grade students. I read each of their paragraphs and then went through and line edited them, adding explanations for my edits alongside them. Then, I wrote the final edited version of the paragraph, after which I wrote a few sentences giving tips on what they could do to improve next time, along with praise for what they did well.
Approach
English's subjective nature can make it confusing for some students, leaving them feeling stupid. As a tutor, I break down the material being studied and explain concepts in simpler language that's easier to understand. If necessary, I go back and review basics that the student might still be confused by to make studying the current material easier to understand. No student should feel stupid for not understanding, and I make it my goal to always encourage my students and build their confidence.
