Fun Facts
I love to travel! Last summer I went to Africa for three weeks, and it was life-changing! (as cliché as that sounds). I want to travel around the world, and hope to do that once I graduate! I'm from Chicago and I love to cook!
About Me
I attend the Ohio State University and am a senior. I am studying biology, with a minor in Studio Art. I am currently studying for the MCAT, with hopes to apply to medical school. Once in medical school, I am aspiring to become a surgeon.
When I was in Africa, I taught English at the local school (K-12). I taught 3rd grade, 6th grade, and 12th grade. This really helped me learn a teaching method, because in Africa, all of the students were at different levels with the material they were studying. Also, the students only spoke Swahili-with very limited English, so I had to present the material in a way that students would understand what I was saying. I also learned Swahili so I could better converse with the students and teach them. When I wasn't at the school, I was at the chicago">tutoring center and I was further helping students individually. I also have tutored for organic chemistry. I love chicago">tutoring and helping people, and I think that Frog chicago">Tutoring would really help me learn better techniques and allow me to help more people.
Also branching on my Africa experience- it was very difficult to convey material to the students, especially since they were all at different levels, and had extremely limited english understanding. Rather than stressing them out or making them feel as if they couldn't do it, I worked with them one-on-one and very slowly so that they would understand the material before moving on. If they didn't understand it, I put it in terms so that they could. I believe that rather than undermining someone, it is important to reassure them that they can do it, and work with them slowly until they understand it. Patience and dedication will go a long way when helping people.
Experience
I am a member of Health Science Scholars at Ohio State and I have experience in chicago">tutoring for organic chemistry. I have a younger brother and while I was at home, I help him a lot with his school work. I love to help people learn, and I always put my best efforts into making sure that a student will understand the information!
Approach
I am pursuing a field in medicine, and that is driven by the fact that I love to help people. I will always do my best to help someone as much as I can, and as a chicago">tutor I feel that is a really great skill to have! I want to bring my passion of helping people into all of my sessions, and will make sure to demonstrate the material in many different perspectives. Content is very important, but acquiring good, sturdy study skills is a huge component of excelling in school.
