About Me
I am a freshman at Northern Arizona University. I am studying to become a High School Math Teacher. I also hope to study abroad in Germany. I am the seventh of nine kids. I have seventeen nieces and nephews and love them all to pieces. I really enjoy singing and playing music on my guitar as well as going outside and being active. I grew up playing soccer and visiting my Grandma's house by the beach. Arizona's hot dessert is my favorite place to be but the mountains of Utah are beautiful too. I like to make pizza with my friends and watch a lot of movies. I have always had a passion for numbers and math and I also love to help people and watch them learn.
I have grown up with kids at my house all the time so I have had a lot of practice dealing with them. When I am at my parents' house I am the neighbors go to phoenix">tutor for help with homework questions. Last summer I tutored a sixth grade boy in math and saw significant improvement in his times tables and memory on how to solve problems. For my entire senior year I was a peer phoenix">tutor in a freshman Algebra class and was given responsibility over specific students periodically to help them catch up with the class. The second half of my senior year I was a student teacher in a fifth grade classroom for one hour every day where I taught them math lessons and assisted the teacher.
My approach to phoenix">tutor and mentoring is simple. I like to meet the child and get to know him or her. Getting and understanding of what they need help on allows me to decide what will be best for them. If a student who needs help on homework problems in general I would likely walk them through the assignment and find places to help and make sure they are understanding what they are doing. If they struggle more specifically with something then I would find ways to help them practice and remember what it is they need to be doing and work them to help clarify what they don't understand.
