Fun Facts
I LOVE to cook and am a self-proclaimed "foodie" and wine enthusiast! I also drive my husband nuts redecorating our house every five minutes. I really enjoy painting with acrylics and trying different mediums in art projects and lastly I just started kayaking and it has become a new passion! I have been working with children for over 30 years in one form of education or another and proudly come from a long line of teachers.
About Me
I am the mother of four amazing children, three grown and one 11-year-old and the wife to the most amazing, funny man on the planet. I like my house to be full of life and the laughter of my kids, though my passion for teaching came long before I had my own children. My mother and grandmother were teachers and I deeply admired both of them and witnessed the sincere love their students had for them as well as the respect. It led me on to the path I chose for my career and I have loved every second of it. My daily approach to life is to treat every day as a new beginning and to fill my moments finding joy and celebrating the fact that we can learn something new each day.
Experience
For the past 9 years, I've tutored ESL, reading and comprehension, math, social studies ELA and test preps on platforms across the web and in my local school district in-person. I teach Language Arts and writing through 12th grade and math through 8th grade. I have been a 5/5 start rated teacher on 5 different teaching platforms for my level of student engagement and learning quality.
Approach
I believe children learn best when they are having fun! I build rapport with every single student by warmly welcoming them and taking the time to get to know them and their interests. I believe that when you can incorporate things the students love into their lessons, allowing them to make a sincere personal connection to the material, they will "forever-learn" it. I have never run out of steam or felt burned out as a tutor because every time a student overcomes a challenge, it's magical.

English Tutoring
My mother was an English teacher so I grew up in a house being corrected and perfecting my spoken and written word! For the last 6 years I have taught English as a Second Language to Chinese children who spoke very little or no English. I have also written and taught a Language Arts class privately.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I have 4 years' experience as my school district's reading intervention substitute teacher. I also have 3 years of reading comprehension tutoring online with grades K-12. My latest experience was working with and writing private classes for a dyslexic 4th grader. He started off not being able to decode Kindergarten level words and improved dramatically!
ESL Tutoring
I have a TESOL certificate. I have been an ESL teacher both privately and with a public company for six years. My Anthropology degree helped teach me to remain objective and I had a concentration in linguistics.
Earth Science Tutoring
I started off my bachelor's degree as a Geology major. I have taken additional classes at the collegiate level as interest classes for my own educational pursuits. My Anthropology degree benefitted from my time studying the earth and its processes before switching my major.
Pre Algebra Tutoring
For the past year, I have been tutoring math online including Pre-Algebra to middle school students across the country. I am also a math intervention substitute for my local school district. I have partnered with our district for 5 years in this role and have found that it is one of my favorite subjects to tutor in!

Science Tutoring
I started my college career as Geology major for the first two years. I have since taken general interest courses at our local community college in Earth sciences. I graduated with a degree in Biological Anthropology and have an excellent background in many areas of science.
Social Studies Tutoring
I have taught Social Studies online and in-person over the last 4 years across different platforms. Most of my experience is with the elementary and middle school age. I even wrote a fun class called Silly States and Crazy Capitals that I taught as a private tutor that talked about strange laws and events in all of our 50 states.
Study Skills Tutoring
As a substitute teacher, childcare center owner, online tutor and homeschooler, I have helped children around the world effectively study. I have four children of my own so keeping homework organized and finding a system that worked for each of them was a key to their success as adults. I think every student has an individual way to learn and as a homework coach, it is a goal to find it and apply it.
