I am a mixed-media artist and consider myself to be a maker of things. I've dabbled in garment construction and costume design. Other interests include reading, writing, travel, theatre, dance, and the culinary arts!
About Me
I am an enthusiastic individual, who loves working with children in many capacities. My recent foray into online teaching has been as an online ESL teacher and an ELA and Elementary Mathematics teacher.
Experience
I've been lucky to work with children in multiple scenarios. I've worn different hats, as a professional Nanny, Peer Mentor/Tutor, Day Care Assistant, Camp Art Teacher, ESL teacher, and ELA and Elementary Math Tutor.
Approach
As a young child, teachers described me as a daydreamer. I was often staring out of the window, creating stories about people walking by. Through it all, books always managed to hold my interest. My parents surrounded us with books and made us look up answers to any questions we had, in the Encyclopedia in our home library. Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I've had the opportunity to work with High School students on their reading. I encourage students to read aloud, because I feel it fosters understanding. Reading aloud, forces students to slow down, and pay attention to the content. I also took several English Literature and Philosophy classes in college, where we were tested on our comprehension of various texts.
English Tutoring
I've had the opportunity to teach ELA to Middle School students, and it's been very rewarding. Areas that I'm particularly fond of, are vocabulary and spelling. I enjoy using word games, and dictionaries with students. I believe that a dictionary and thesarus are your best companion.
ESL Tutoring
I am an ethusiastic TESOL certified teacher. I've gained experience teaching English on various online platforms (VIPKID, English First). I conducted individual 1-to-1 lessons to children aged 3-18, and attended workshops to remain informed about the best techniques and strategies for English Language learners.
Reading Tutoring
