Fun Facts

When I'm not teaching, I am hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, biking.....anything in nature, usually with my dog. I also have two cats and two grown kids! Although I've played piano since I was five, I took up drums, as well, at 55. I also play a little guitar and ukulele.

About Me

I am a certified K-8th teacher with decades of experience in the classroom.....and more than 25,000 online classes so far. I did a Master's in Teaching program, which is like a Master's in Education but for students who have a Bachelor's degree in another field. I also have a B.S. in Business Administration: Accounting.......and even went to law school! I'm a lifelong learner and really passionate about teaching! I only got one B+ in my Master's Program and all A's otherwise (Summa Cum Laude)....and only because, due to a medical issue with my son, I wasn't able to take the final exam in that class or....it would have also been an A.

Experience

Although my main classroom experience as a teacher was in elementary school, I also substitute taught for grades Pre-K through 12th, for many years, when my kids were growing up. Online, I have taught over 25,000 classes for Pre-K through 12th, in many areas, and have a lot of ESL experience, as well. I also have the TESOL certificate. I've been teaching for decades now! I have also taught immigrant adults English!

Approach

As a child, I was very smart but....hyper! Teachers weren't always so kind to me until I was able to settle down more by 9th grade. The pain that my teachers caused me to feel seemed to create an understanding of different learners and their styles, as an adult, and also gave me incredible patience. My now-grown kids are also very bright, having tested in the top 99th and 98th percentile in the country but....one with ADD and one with Asperger's Syndrome.
