Fun Facts
I appear in a children's book called My Chocolate Ice Cream Cone! In 2015, my grandmother fulfilled her lifelong dream and published for the first time at the age of 68. Her book shares a song that our family has passed down for generations, and she released it in memory of her late mother who taught it to her. Since I was a teenager at the time, I played an active part in the publication process, and I became the main character!
About Me
I recently graduated magna cum laude from Eastern Kentucky University! I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching through a creative writing path, which required me to take classes in advanced fiction and advanced poetry. Now, I am a published author with pieces in Kentucky English Bulletin, Kentucky Monthly, and other venues! Other than that, my two-year-old Goldendoodle, Atlas, is my biggest joy in life.
Experience
In college, I worked as a general consultant for The Noel Studio for Academic Creativity. After two years of consulting high school and college students, the university presented me an award for my dedication. Also during undergrad, The Collecting Memories Circle hired me as an assistant to help older writers transcribe and proofread narratives for publication. Before graduation, I also taught middle school language arts and high school English at Model Laboratory School for five months.
Approach
I adopted the Pedagogy of Care as my approach to teaching four years ago. The Pedagogy of Care offers a different perspective on teacher-student relationships. It relies on the idea that students can't learn from someone who doesn't appear to care about their well-being, and it encourages teachers to prioritize caring for students over instilling knowledge in them.
