Fun Facts

Many of my favorite leisure activities relate to my desire to maintain my mental and physical health. I play scrabble and read, both which improves my vocabulary and preserves my cognitive health. In addition, I play ultimate Frisbee and basketball in order to stay physically healthy. Research findings suggest exercise increases neurogenesis, decreases stress and improves self-esteem.

About Me

I pursued my undergraduate education at Xavier University (XU), wherein I majored in biology on the pre-medicine track. I graduated from XU honors program cum laude with a major GPA of 3.5. Subsequently, I attained a full academic scholarship from Tulane University and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to pursue a Master of Neuroscience degree. I recently graduated from this program, and I am currently a medical student.

Experience

I tutored university students in introductory and advanced biology in both one-on-one and group settings as a staff member of the Xavier University Biology Tutoring Center. While tutoring one-on-one, I tailored the tutoring session to the needs of tutee, and I helped him/her develop study strategies and techniques to ensure long-term academic success. Furthermore, as an after school teacher at a childcare center, I assisted students with homework as well as promoted literacy and math skills thro

Approach

My tutoring approach incorporates ideas I learned from my graduate neuroscience classes and past extensive tutoring experiences. The first step in the tutoring process is to determine the learning style of the student, making the tutoring experience truly individualized. I try to diagnose why the student is having a problem in the subject area to ensure long-term success. A student’s ability to understand a given subject matter may be hindered by difficulties such as, but not limited to, lack of
