Fun Facts

In my free time, I love being outdoors, playing guitar, and traveling. I like staying active and enjoy playing racquetball and golf with my friends. I am a bit of a movie buff, I enjoy cooking, and love to snowboard and scuba dive whenever there is an opportunity. Though I am a long-time Memphian, I am originally from Latvia and can speak Russian.

About Me

At Rhodes College, I majored in biology, played D-III lacrosse, and was involved in service and internships at the MED, the Church Health Center, the Memphis Crisis Center, and Baptist Memorial. In addition, I was accepted into the βββ (biological), ΧAΣ (student-athlete), and ∆EI academic honor societies. Following Rhodes, I attended UTHSC and received a Master’s in Pharmacology; my thesis covered disease-modifying therapy for Alzheimer's disease. Having recently taken the MCAT, I am hoping to begin medical school next summer.

I gained my first memphis">tutoring experiences as a high school volunteer at De La Salle Elementary in Memphis, primarily assisting the kids with reading and math assignments on the weekends. At Rhodes College, my memphis">tutoring experience grew as I was elected Scholarship Chair for the ΠKA fraternity. As Scholarship Chair, I organized study halls as well as provided one-on-one memphis">tutoring and academic guidance to underclassmen my junior and senior year. Having experienced the challenges of adjusting to the college pace myself, I was glad to offer different ways to approach class material, effective study insights, and help boost the confidence for other students in this difficult transition. As a memphis">tutor, I hope to be of similar service to local students and help them achieve their potentials.

I believe an important part of understanding and helping others understand challenging concepts is practicing the ability to put the main ideas into simple terms. With a grasp on the fundamentals, “what if” questions can be very useful in expanding knowledge and application skills. Furthermore, relating classroom material to familiar situations can improve information retention and improve one's attitude towards a challenging subject. In some cases, flowcharts and mnemonics can be helpful with tougher content to remember. Most importantly, I believe memphis">tutoring should be personalized to the student’s natural learning style, whether it is visual, auditory, or other. With
