Fun Facts
I have traveled to many countries in the world, including Asia, South America, and Africa. I continue to be amazed at the diversity of people, and the way they relate to their world. I am also a musician and appreciate the different ways people use music to define their world.
About Me
My undergraduate major at Columbia University was English literature, and I was on the Dean's list for my junior and senior years. However, when I graduated, I taught myself computers and became a computer programmer in C and dBase. I became interested in Cognitive Psychology and I went to graduate school at Indiana University in psychology and cognitive science, focusing on music and audition, since I am a musician as well. I worked for several years as a researcher in the field.
Experience
I have taught quite extensively at the college level; in graduate school, I taught Statistics and Cognitive Processes. After I taught Cognitive Psychology at UC Hayward, music cognition at UC Berkeley, and affective/cognitive psychology at Alliant University. I have also SAT prep for high school students for the Princeton Review.
Approach
I have been interested in many things in my life, music, writing, science, and computers, and I think I have been able to integrate all of those into my teaching. I try to get students to look at the larger picture, and not just the facts they think I want them to spit back at me.
