Fun Facts
I previously had a job working with "troubled youth" (teens aged 13-17). The kids I worked with were highly aggressive and in placement in place of juvenile detention. I would go to on-grounds school with the kids and tutor them in the classroom as well as when we returned to their program after school.
I have always wanted to work with kids and almost went into teaching, but found a passion for Psychology in high school and fell in love with it.
About Me
I am finishing my final year of college at Taylor University. I am majoring in Orphans and Vulnerable Children with a concentration in Psychology.
I have previously worked with teens in as a "last chance" before juvenile detention. The most important part of the job was relationship building, as our main purpose was to mentor the kids while also aiding them in their counseling and preparing them to re-enter society. My favorite part of the job was building relationships with the kids.
Experience
As a junior in high school, I was president of my choir, and part of that position was tutoring classmates in sight-reading and some music theory. Throughout high school, I tutored friends in Spanish. I was also a Spanish tutor in college during my sophomore and junior year. I was a nanny the summer after my freshman year of college and I tutored the children to help prepare them for the school year ahead. At my previous job, I tutored middle school and high school STEM subjects.
Approach
As a child and young teen, I did not struggle in school. I got a severe concussion when I was 15 and suffered brain damage. I did not receive much help from teachers, so I had to try out different studying methods and different methods of learning to see what worked for me.
When I tutored at my previous job, each kid was at a different place in their education. The kid was far more receptive and my tutoring was far more successful when I met the kid where they were and manipulated my methods to

Study Skills Tutoring
Throughout elementary and middle school, I had no problems with school, but I got a severe concussion when I was fifteen and found it next to impossible to learn new topics. I had to experiment and find what study strategies worked best for me. I previously worked at a facility where teens go as a last chance before juvenile detention and I would go to school with these kids, tutoring them during school as well as the following afternoon when they returned to their programs. Each kid had their own struggles with school and studying, but I met them where they were at and helped each kid find out what study strategies worked best for them as an individual.
Reading Tutoring
I struggled with reading in Elementary school and learned through the years how to improve my skills and make reading easier for myself. I have tutored younger cousins and children whose families I was a nanny for how to strengthen their reading skills. Each child is different and needs different attention and different approaches.
