About Me

I am a Physics Ph.D. Student at the University of Illinois-Chicago. I've taken many physics, applied math, and CS courses, and my primary field of study intersects all of these topics.
I'm comfortable tutoring:
* All undergraduate physics,
* math courses such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, etc.
* science/illinois/chicago">Computer Science topics such as data structures, basic algorithms, as well as
* Programming skills such as Python, and Fortran, and using Linux, parallel programming, and GPU programming.

Experience

I've previously:
* Taken and passed Foundations of College-Level Teaching at UIC
* Lectured introductory physics courses for UIC
* Been a teaching assistant for a Data Structures class
* Given graduate-level physics lectures
* Tutored math & physics at UIC's tutoring center

Approach

When I was young, I didn't think math was useful for anything. This is funnily enough, at odds with the fact that I loved space documentaries as a kid. I'd never made the connection that astrophysicists do the math. I now have a litany of examples where math, physics, and programming can be very useful to those who don't have job titles with math, physics, or programming in the name.

Through the Foundations of College-Level Teaching course at UIC, I've learned lecturing should only be done in s

Calculus I Tutoring

I took Calculus 1 in community college and got an A. My physics degree uses calculus all the time. I've tutored people online for calculus in the past.

Calculus 2 Tutoring

I took Calculus 2 in community college and got an A. My physics degree uses calculus all the time. I've tutored people online for calculus in the past.

Calculus 3 Tutoring

I took Calculus 3 in community college and got an A. My physics degree uses calculus all the time. I've tutored people online for calculus in the past.

Computer Science Tutoring

I have taken a few CS courses during my undergraduate degree, which was in Applied Physics. The 'applied' part was CS. I have a decent understanding of discrete math, data structures, algorithms, and of course programming and am comfortable teaching most 1st-2nd year CS courses. I design algorithms and write a lot of code in my physics research.

Math Tutoring

As a physics PhD student, I know a lot of applied mathematics, and have taken many courses as an undergrad and gotten A's or B's in them, such as:
Calculus
Differential Equations
Partial Differential Equations
Linear Algebra
Numerical Ordinary Differential Equations
Fourier Series & Boundary Value Problems
Discrete Mathematics
Mathematical Methods for Physicists.

Additionally, tutoring these math topics comes up a lot when tutoring advanced physics subjects, something I have done a fair amount in the past to good success.

Linux Tutoring

I use Linux as my main operating system (I'm using it as I type this!). I know many of the ins and outs that someone would need to know when using many flavors of Linux. Scientific computing is primarily done on Linux operating systems, and that is a vital part of my PhD.

Python Tutoring

I have been using Python for years for my classes and my PhD research. It is one of my favorite programming languages.
