This semester, I learned a lot about leading data analysis and school improvement through technology. I want to be a teacher, a good teacher, for more reasons than I can possibly explain. However, in a formable attempt to do so, I will start by saying that I have known from a very young age that there is a considerable difference between being just a teacher and being a teacher that puts their heart and soul into helping shape the lives of students entrusted to them. I not only believe that teachers should be fully committed to maximizing their student’s development as contributing citizens in a diverse and democratic society, but they should be just as committed to finding ways to challenge their students to reach beyond their perceived potential. I want to be an elementary school teacher to get in on the ground floor of children’s lives; to help build solid foundations of untapped potential and possibilities that could one day help solve many of the world’s problems and have a direct impact on humanity. However, potential is just that without the confidence to unleash it. As a teacher, I will be in a unique position to help cultivate a child’s confidence and their perseverance to keep it up; to instill the idea that failing is a part of many paths on the way to success, and that to fall and get back up builds character. A good teacher knows that an education encompasses more than just the required textbooks.
