Fun Facts
I've lived all over the world and built my own tiny house on wheels to move with me! I love helping students craft essays, especially for college entrance and jobs, and I love teaching people how to tell stories with data through geographic information systems and mapping.
About Me
I'm a geographer who used to work in higher education before spending a decade in government. I loved working with students. I've taught all ages from pre-school to college level and adults. In my government position, I developed training on GIS and mapping for federal employees and college students. While working at a community college, I helped students craft their essays for four-year school applications and taught writing skills and general education. While in graduate school, I taught geography and GIS. And, right out of college, I worked at a Montessori school for a couple of years as a Spanish teacher.
A couple of years ago I left my government career to focus on my tiny housework. I currently teach seminars and workshops and consult with cities on tiny homes and alternative housing strategies. I love teaching, so I'm looking for ways to fill out my time with tutoring and teaching, especially GIS, geography, and writing.
Experience
15+ years of teaching experience - two years teaching Spanish at a Montessori school, 3 years teaching writing and basic skills at a community college, 10 years teaching GIS, mapping, data analysis, and data science in government, five years teaching tiny house construction and project management for adults, and 3 years teaching geography, GIS and writing to college students.
Approach
I am a very encouraging educator who works with each student as an individual, so I'm tailoring my approach to them and their learning style. I grew up in a family of educators, and I find teaching very rewarding because it constantly requires me to innovate and get creative in how I teach to meet each student's unique learning style.
I love seeing students challenge themselves and meet those challenges.
