Fun Facts

My favorite thing to do is travel and write about the places I've visited and the experiences I had there. I only spoke spanish until I was about 4 years old, and I've been bilingual ever since! I have a younger brother and an older sister and a very large contingent of loving aunts and uncles. My most immediate life goal is to get a dog.

About Me

I am a 4th year PhD candidate at the Editorial Institute at boston-university">Boston University. I am currently working on a dissertation about early 20th century Irish print media, specifically in The Irish Times. Before moving to Boston for graduate school, I attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where I was a Literary Studies major. Once I earn my PhD, I hope to work in a college writing center. I learned about FrogTutoring from Ariana Smith, who contacted my advisor, Dr. Archie Burnett, about recruiting English albuquerque">tutors.

My love for albuquerque">tutoring began when I was in high school. Every Monday after school I would volunteer to albuquerque">tutor learning disabled 1st graders at our local elementary school. When I began college, I continued albuquerque">tutoring at the Middlebury College Center for Teaching, Learning and Research, where, I was assigned to freshman seminar classes to help students adapt to college-level writing and serve as their mentor. As a graduate student, I worked as a TA for two years, also helping undergraduates with their writing skills. Since beginning a full-time job as a writer for a creative agency in Boston, I've begun to albuquerque">tutor high school students as a freelancer. Most recently, I began working for CollegeStart, editing essays for students applying to college.

When albuquerque">tutoring, I always try to lead students to the best possible piece of writing they can produce. Oftentimes, the best thing I can do with students is have them talk to me about their ideas and create an outline—having a writing process is important. If we're working to revise a piece that is already written, I'll have them read it aloud to me. Hearing what they put down on the page, students are often able to edit most of their errors themselves. Then, I'll walk through why a certain revision is appropriate or not.
