I am the author of two children's books, "Firefly Night" and "Rainbow Bikes". I love working with aspiring young authors to help them edit and publish their books, poetry, or essays.
About Me
I have over 30 years of experience as an educator. I hold a California Multiple Subject Lifetime Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. I am qualified to teach all grade levels including preschool and adult classes.
I offer free evaluations to all potential students. I meet with the students and their families to assess student needs and goals. I then design an individualized curriculum for each student.
I specialize in English Language Arts which includes beginning-advanced Reading, struggling readers, and students with special needs, including dyslexia. My classes also include reading comprehension, phonics, grammar, vocabulary, and poetry analysis. I instruct students in the formatting, writing, and editing of narrative, creative, opinion, research, and personal essays.
Experience
I have been an educator since 1978. I have been a lead teacher in preschool and kindergarten classrooms in California, Illinois, and Hawaii. Over the past three years, as well as while I was teaching in traditional classroom settings, I have been doing private one-on-one tutoring for students between the age of preschool-high school as well as for adults. I also am currently working with struggling readers and students with dyslexia.
Approach
I meet with the family and student to assess the student's needs/strengths/goals and interests. I then create an individualized curriculum /approach for each student. As I work with students of varying levels, I use a variety of approaches. For younger students, especially those who are struggling, I include phonics, sight words, beginning readers, letter sounds, rhyming word family flashcards, ( at/cat/ bat, etc), visual aids, puppets, songs, and or rhyming words well as videos to keep the stud
