Fun Facts

One fun fact about me is that I love to make old-fashioned mix CD's for my friends. If I'm not listening to music on a CD, it's probably because I'm using Spotify. I am half-Swedish and speak Swedish fluently, but I was terrible at languages in school. I was an athlete in high school and I love to make digital art using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

About Me

My name is Klara, I am 18 years old, and I just graduated from high school in June 2014. I'm taking a bridge year before I start studying at Vassar College. My high school GPA was 95%. I took a lot of math and English classes, including AP Literature, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP US History, and AP Psychology. I was part of the National Honor Society, I was a Greater Boston League All-Star for Rowing, and I won a Silver Key in the Massachusetts Scholastic Art Awards. I co-captained the girls Rowing team.

Since I'm right out of high school, all the concepts I learned are fresh in my mind, and I remember what was challenging about them. I was very invested in the Cambridge School Volunteer boston">Tutoring Center. I was tutored in French, and in Calculus. I have also tutored another student in Geometry. I know what it's like to be confused about something, and what kind of help is actually helpful. I constantly help my younger sister, her friends, and my friends' younger siblings with studying and their homework. I also volunteered as a Freshman Mentor to help younger students adapt to high school. The reason I want to be a boston">tutor now is because it's something that I really had a lot of fun doing, and I miss using my brain to solve a word problem or write a body paragraph.

When I am helping someone solve a problem, I first ask them how they would solve it to see where they are having difficulties. Then I like to break the problem down into smaller, more manageable steps and take them through it bit by bit. Instead of asking them if they understand what I'm showing them (usually teenagers tend to say they do even if they don't) I'll ask them to explain it to me. When I boston">tutor, I teach the student how to recognize patterns and identify different kind of problems so they can better apply what they've learned to other situations.
