About Me
I am a senior studying physics at Santa Clara University. I'm in the honors program with a 3.6 GPA. I plan to work in the research field hopefully at Stanford for two years after graduation before continuing on to a PhD program. I would like to become a research scientist in nanotech energy storage. I am an eagle scout, was a captain on my waterpolo team in high school, and have served in various leadership positions at SCU's community service organization as well as the society of physics students.
I tutored college prep freshman as a senior in high school and I have been tutoring lower income underperforming high school kids at Downtown College Prep in physics and math for around 6 months now.
To start with I check in on what the student knows and what they're struggling with the most. In this portion I mostly let them vent about their frustrations. Out of this I usually am able to pick out generally what topics they've been working on, what the tough part has been for them. Then I do a short overview or the chapter, taking extra time to explain the things that I think our challenging and that they have expressed concern with. I then walk through a few example problems with them, prompting them for input and guiding them to the procedure for the problem from my previous explanation. I then allow them to try on their own to expose gaps in their understanding, work on those, then try more problems. I usually end with recommendations for things to do on their own.
