About Me

I have been blessed with 2 careers. I was a therapist for many years and then became a education/colorado/denver">special education teacher. I have two master's degrees and recently earned my EdD in Curriculum and Instruction.

Experience

I have worked in education for more than 25 years. As a mental health therapist, I worked in a partial hospitalization in a high school. I worked with students in their homes, public, and schools to help them manage behaviors in those environments. I taught abnormal psychology for 9 years at the collegiate level. I tutored online for 8 grades 5th grade through 12th in reading and math. I've worked in education/colorado/denver">special education since 2010 in self-contained classes and then as a support teacher format

Approach

It is important to get to know students. Each student has a different learning style and interest. As a literacy coach, I found reading materials that students found interesting. Math can be challenging for many students, so using real-life experiences and fun activities help them stay interested. Taking breaks, talking about what is working, and praising are all important to help students succeed.
