Fun Facts

One fun fact about me is I absolutely LOVE musicals. I was/is/still am a theatre kid; I've performed in pit orchestra on flute/piccolo for five musicals including The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee the Musical, Shrek the Musical, Freaky Friday the Musical, and The Music Man Musical. For two years in college, I double-majored in theatre, before deciding to focus on Education. The first musical I ever watched was A Christmas Carol, but my favorite musical is Wicked!

About Me

Hello! I am a college student at the University of Mary in North Dakota, studying Elementary Education with a minor in Music. I have ten years of experience playing the flute, and I am fluent in conversational Mandarin/Chinese. After graduation, I plan on becoming an Elementary School Teacher, as well as teaching private flute lessons.

Experience

Throughout my middle and high school years, I routinely assisted and tutored my elementary-aged cousin's English/reading and math. In high school, I was the Winds Section Leader in Orchestra, served on Math Club Board for two years, and was President of the Interact Volunteer Club. I have 10+ years of experience playing and performing the flute and have performed at various venues, including Disneyland and the 2020 Tournament of Roses Parade.

Approach

As a college student studying education, I am actively learning how to better teach, communicate and reach young students, through courses such as, "Elementary Math for Teachers," as well as spending time on a regular basis in elementary classrooms observing teachers and teaching methods in action. My approach to tutoring is through getting to know a student, helping them to figure out what or where they struggle with in their academics, and asking tailored and directed questions to motivate them
