About Me

I am a senior English Education major at San Francisco State University. I took 7 AP classes in high school to prepare for college and I love learning. I truly believe I can help students find the same love for learning I have.

Experience

I have been a "teacher" all my life with my 5 siblings who always needed help in one subject or another. However, 826 Valencia has provided me the opportunity to tutor disadvantaged high school students at Downtown High School. Moreover, through meaningful engagement with lesson-building assignments, peer review experience, and assessment practice, the necessary teaching skills have been embedded in me through my lessons at SFSU.

Approach

What most students struggle with is reading comprehension. First, I always establish where the student is at with their reading skills, and develop my teaching strategy around that. I further believe in an inquiry-based teaching strategy, allowing students to "wander and wonder" throughout the curriculum. Students will develop their questions, and we can use those questions as jumping-off points to dive into further learning. This helps them engage meaningfully with the lesson.
